A classic case of fishing for clicks?

It could well be another case of lazy journalism, or a classic case of fishing for clicks, as the former Leicester and England striker is out of contract and of course played under Brendan Rodgers during his time at the King Power stadium.

However, if there is any hint of truth in the story, then it’s yet another damning indictment of our recruitment process as signing a 38 year old free agent who played under the manager is not a very good look, and supporters are yet again getting very frustrated with the way the club are conducting their transfer business.

We’ve taken in circa £20 million in transfer fees this summer with an extra few million thrown in due to the Jeremie Frimpong windfall and the Lagerbielke cash, and we’ve reinvested about £3 million of that in adding to the squad, and that is quite frankly not good enough.

And it seems that there’s another windfall coming Celtic’s way from the sale of Ben Doak from Liverpool to Bournemouth that went through yesterday. That could add another £2m to the summer window profits and that’s before they decide If they are going to sell Daizen Maeda.

If Ben Doak is worth £25m then Daizen is surely worth much more than that?  But to us he is priceless.

Jamie Vardy would do a job up here, even at 38 that’s not in doubt, but if that’s the extent of our ambition then it’s a very bleak outlook.  And all it does is kick the ‘never replaced Kyogo’ can down the road because if Vardy signs we’ll maybe get a short-term tune out of him but will be back in the same position next summer.

And Brendan has made It abundantly clear that he will NOT be staying at Celtic to tread water if there is no ambition in the Boardroom to take Celtic forward as a European force.

Tomorrow night is all about supporting the team and hopefully building up a big lead against a side that will play like Livingston will at the weekend when they come to Celtic Park. It will be difficult to break both Kairat Almaty and Livingston down and both will look to frustrate the crowd to transfer the anxiety to the team. So our role is clear – back the team, back Brendan and help them get the job done.

Maybe Jamie Vardy will show up today too. Who knows for sure?  And don’t dare sell Daizen!
