The Seagulls are yet to reach a major domestic cup final, however, they arguably go into this season’s competition with their strongest squad to date.
When speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s fourth round tie against Durham in Crawley, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Vidošić did not shy away from his ultimate aim.
“I’d love to win it,” Vidošić said. “That’s always the aim and it’ll never change. We respect every opponent, every competition, every game; regardless of if it’s FA Cup, a friendly or a WSL game, it all carries the same weight to myself.
“We come present as Brighton, we perform and we play the way that we want to play. I don’t think the game should have a bearing on that. We know it’s the first game in the FA Cup and we know about ‘the magic of the cup’. There are upsets, so we know we have to be prepared, we have to be ready. We know it’s a tough start after the break but it’s one that we are really looking forward to.”
Opponents Durham are enjoying an excellent season in the Barclays Women’s Championship and Vidošić is not expecting an easy tie this weekend.
He said “We know it’s going to be a very tough game with the way that they play. It’s probably a little bit more on transition but they’ll still try to press and force the hand from when we have the ball. They have some dangerous players and I know Michaela Foster quite well from our time in Australia.
“We’ve spent the week trying to look [at them], plan and get ready. We will be ready for the challenge that they present.”
Brighton & Hove Albion fans can be forgiven for being excited for 2025 but Vidošić says that this year’s aim is to simply keep improving and challenging in every competition.
He said “I just want constant improvement. There are many facets of the game that we want to get better in, that we want to improve on.
“The girls did really well in the first half of the season. Everything that they have achieved [so far] is a credit to them because they’ve taken on a lot of information and there’s plenty more to come.
“We’ve hit the ground running since we’ve stepped back in. We are looking to consistently improve as individuals, as units and as a collective. We are constantly looking to improve as a team to rectify some stuff; make our strengths stronger, tighten up our weaknesses. The beauty of football is that you can always improve and get better.
“Each week that we come out, we want to be a tougher opposition to play against, make sure that we can keep challenging and climbing that ladder. We want to challenge in the two cup competitions as well.”
