Southampton have been given a food for thought by Troy Deeney to minimize their managerial turnarounds.
Following an almost nine-month struggle, Southampton fans' worst fears have finally turned true. The Saints have retraced their steps back to the Championship and second-division football is about to become the norm for the St. Mary's faithful.
Agreed, this means a return to winning ways but that can't be an excuse for Southampton to become a laughing-stock every time they are promoted out of the Championship.
Otherwise, the Saints will be busy switching their playing levels every year while making almost negligible progress. Or much worse, if they just keep showing the exit doors to their coaches after only a few months.
Now, I know Ivan Juric didn't stand up to his expectations but a regular managerial overhaul only serves to increase the recruitment headache further.
Luckily, Southampton have been given wise advice in this regard from one of Championship's iconic strikers, Troy Deeney. Speaking on the Match of the Day programme, the Daily Echo quoted Deeney saying: "You're going from one philosophy to another, you're going playing out from the back to going and getting after it."
With those words, the Saints must feel helpless if no manager can find the best out of their current roster. In that situation, tackling the foundational squad issues remains the only option for Southampton to succeed.
And Deeney's unbiased stance towards either Juric or Martin also points towards a much-needed squad re-shuffle.
The reason being that Southampton parted ways with a wealth of Premier League quality and experience in the previous summer. Two important aspects that came back to haunt Southampton for months before handing them a top-flight escape.
Eventually, a head coach must be present on Southampton's summer bucket-list but that shouldn't be the end of that list.
