Ianis Hagi will miss three weeks after Rangers shocker

Rangers’ returning but now-controversial playmaker Ianis Hagi, who was unceremoniously given his marching orders barely 35 minutes into his much-hyped Rangers return on Sunday, has now been confirmed as out for the rest of October, having been banned for Rangers’ next two Premiership matches and obviously missing the FCSB match sandwiched in-between.

Hagi, naturally, wasn’t selected for Rangers’ Europa League league-phase squad, and would only potentially feature in Europe this season if Rangers secure knock-out football, a prospect which is now a little more remote after being humbled by Lyon midweek.

If Rangers do finish in positions to gain KO football, Clement then gets the chance to change three of his players, and that’s Hagi’s route in, if the manger wants him.

And with his suspension coupled with his ineligibility, there was also the potential of his having taken a little knock in his ‘incident’ (he was seen limping off slightly) but fears of that one have subsided after Philippe Clement confirmed he’s going off with Romania for the international break.

It does, ultimately, mean that assuming he’s picked in the match squad for the north of Scotland, the earliest Hagi can feature for Rangers is at Pittodrie on the 30th, which is ironic given our content earlier about his diabolical tackle happening around the anniversary of ‘that’ assault on Ian Durrant in 1988 and Aberdeen’s appalling glorification of Neil Simpson.

Either way, Hagi won’t play again for Rangers for over three weeks, and we wonder how Clement feels about putting him back in.

On his red card the manager said:

“It is what it is. It is also not a violent one or with high intensity, it was more a clumsy one, unlucky one. But it is a clear red card when I saw it afterwards so I don’t think it will be a big suspension.”

They call it ‘serious foul play’ when a player is extremely reckless even if it’s not absolutely deliberate, and Hagi will serve a two match ban and apparently be available for Pittodrie.

What a return, eh?
