Being one of the biggest clubs in European football, FC Barcelona remains the dream destination of young players from all around the world. Only a marginal number of these players end up joining the Catalan club, and even a smaller number of players end up having a notable career with the Blaugrana team.

One player who got the chance to don the renowned blue and garnet jersey rather early in his career was the Portuguese winger Francisco Trincão, who, unfortunately, was unable to make a long-term place for himself in the Azulgrana team.

However, even joining Barcelona was nothing less than a dream come true for him, as he himself explained in a recent interview with his current club, Sporting Lisbon’s, channels, the highlights of which have been reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Talking about the time he got the offer to join the Blaugrana club, he believed his parents were joking with him:

“I was at Sporting Braga and had a match against Moreirense. I always call my parents, but that night my father couldn’t talk. My mother told me he was busy with work, which never happens at night.”

“I went to sleep, and the next day my father told me: ‘I couldn’t answer, I was busy with some things. You’re going to play for Barcelona, I’m here taking care of everything.’ I thought he was joking with me.”

The Portuguese went on with the story, telling how he ultimately joined Barcelona:

“I had been playing for Braga for a short time and was going to play for Barcelona… I had only started playing regularly for two or three months. I thought my father was joking with me.”

“I scored a great goal and provided an assist against Moreirense, had a great match, and called my father. I didn’t know what to do. I went to see my father, and he told me everything about how it might happen or not, and within those three days, we signed the contracts, and I joined Barcelona.”

However, he was rather unlucky to see his time at the Catalan club coincide with the Covid-19 pandemic, but still, he did not have any problems adapting to Barcelona:

“At the time, due to Covid, I did the pre-season with the new signings like Pedri and Matheus Fernandes, but we had to do everything in shifts, and obviously, it wasn’t the same. The whole team arrived at the end, we got together, and suddenly the season started.”

“I became friends with Pedri, and everything became easier. Honestly, I never had serious problems adapting. I always felt comfortable in such a big club, the city was also incredible, and the culture was similar to ours.”

However, he was unable to really impress at the Blaugrana club, and as Xavi Hernandez was not counting on him, he had to leave, first on a loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then on another loan to Sporting Lisbon, following which he was permanently signed by the Portuguese side.

Now, he is once again shining in his native country and is likely to undertake another big move this summer.
