Earlier this week, Sevilla announced that Jesus Navas would be leaving the club at the end of the season. There is now a chance that the 38-year-old stays, having been extended an enticing offer.

On Friday, Navas stated that he would have loved to stay at Sevilla, but he was not extended an offer to sign a new contract, which led to the announcement. He also called out Los Nervionenses’ version of events, stating that he does not have another opportunity lined up for next season.

Now, Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco has come out to address the situation, and in the process, he has offered Navas the chance to stay for as long as he desires.

“I feel obliged to highlight the club’s position on Jesus. It wouldn’t occur to me as a person, as a Sevilla fan, or as a president, to confront the club’s greatest legend. Even this stadium is named after him and I don’t want to polemicise or confront him either publicly or privately. But I also can’t allow it to go down in the annals of history that Jesus doesn’t follow because Sevilla doesn’t want to. It must have been a misunderstanding that I would take responsibility for because I know that Jesus is suffering a lot.

“From here, I offer him a lifetime contract so that he can play here as long as he wants and then works here in whatever capacity that he wants, because he deserves to be at Sevilla for as long as he wants. If he decides to stand by his decision I will respect it, and try to make sure that his departure is up to the task, but I hope that Jesus continues because he deserves it and Sevilla will give Jesus whatever he wants at this point in his career.”

It remains to be seen whether Navas’ departure does come to fruition, or if he opts to accept del Nido Carrasco’s offer. Either way, it’s now clear that Sevilla do not want him under any circumstances.
