A stellar day for Justin Kluivert at St James’ Park, in more ways than one.
The attacking player had already scored a very special Premier League hat-trick this season.
Bournemouth winning 4-2 at Wolves and Justin Kluivert scoring three of the four goals, all from the penalty spot!
However, Saturday at St James’ Park even more special for the 25 year old.
Justin Kluivert getting a hat-trick against the team he used to support!
The Bournemouth player also having the distinction now of having scored more Premier League goals at St James’ Park than his father Patrick.
Justin Kluivert speaking after to BBC Match of the Day after Bournemouth’s 4-1 win:
“I heard I had more goals than him here already, so that is one win over him.
“It’s nice to come here.
“I followed Newcastle United when I was younger.
“Unfortunately for them, Kluivert now plays for another team.
“It’s amazing, wonderful. The best feeling ever.
“We always know we’re good.
“The start of the game is one of the most important things we focus on. That was good today. I’m super proud of the team.
“The squad isn’t that big at the moment. We have 12 fit first-team players. A result like this is just amazing. We trust in each other and believe in each other. I think that’s the spirit in our team.
“We can go very far. Players will come back from injury who we really need.
“We can dream big, but we just need to stay humble and keep working hard. We’ll see at the end where we can finish.”
Looking back, Patrick Kluivert scored six Premier League goals for Newcastle United in the 2004/05 season, five away and just the one at St James’ Park, in a 3-1 win over West Brom in only the fourth PL home game of that season.
As for Justin Kluivert, he was aged five when his dad signed for NUFC and turned six during Patrick’s time at the club, so guessing that was when he started following Newcastle United.
Andoni Iraola talking about Justin Kluivert (and Patrick Kluivert…):
“I didn’t know the stat [of Justin Kluivert having now scored more Premier League goals at St James’ Park than his father].
“I played against his father, he scored against me [when playing for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao]. He was a hell of a player.
“Patrick has been his coach, so [Justin] has this advantage. For sure, [Patrick] gives very good advice.”
