Frank Leboeuf has been one of the most outspoken critics of the new Chelsea ownership, and thus far his criticism has been pretty justified.

He questioned a lot of the squad building which has led to a very rocky period in terms of results, contributed to the sacking of a slew of managers, and alienated a lot of supporters. Things have dramatically improved now, but still the former Chelsea defender has his reservations about how far this team has come.

Like many people, he seems to suggest there’s something a little false about our position in the table, and he’s not yet convinced we’re on the same level as the top teams just yet.

Leboeuf’s take on Chelsea turning the corner

“I don’t know if the Chelsea players can cope with Liverpool. But if they can, it will be reassurance to the fans to see – ok, we are doing great,” the World Cup winner mused on ESPN.

“I really think that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City are above everyone else – they’re above Chelsea. I think it’s going to be really hard for Chelsea to even get a point away from home. But let’s see how they handle it, with their small experience, the expectations from the fans,” he continued.

“Chelsea have a chance against Liverpool, that’s for sure. It’s possible. With the quality in that squad… yeah something is possible. But don’t forget… Liverpool are above Chelsea and they want to step up and show how much strong they are.”

We agree that there’s no way we’re on a level with Man City and Arsenal just yet. But we certainly have a chance today. As much as there is a suspicion that Chelsea have something of a “false position” thanks to an easy run of games to start the season, there are similar suspicions about Liverpool.
