The Soccer Saturday team are warming up for the 3pm kick offs by talking their way through the recent news in the Premier League, and one of the big stories of the day they covered was the rumoured idea of a swap between Manchester United and Chelsea.

The idea is that the Blues would send Christopher Nkunku to United in return for Alejandro Garnacho, who they’ve been linked with heavily this week.

According to Paul Merson, who led the discussion on Sky, that would be a good deal for Man U and a terrible one for Chelsea:

“If I’m Man United I’m getting that deal done right away. 100%,” Merson said.

“If I’m United I’m dropping [Garnacho] off and picking up Nkunku myself. Because he’s a good player, I mean he’s just bang unlucky at Chelsea because of [Cole] Palmer. Palmer’s done unbelievably well, he just hasn’t got into that team. He’s a good player, honestly, if Man U get him they’ve got a signing and a half.”

Garnacho won’t bring anything new to Chelsea claims pundit

Like many of us, Merson was mainly unsure about what Garnacho would bring to the Chelsea team that the wide options we have already don’t offer:

“I don’t get the Garnacho one. He’s not better than Sancho, nowhere near. He’s not better than Neto. Him and Madueke will have their days where they look really good but they won’t be consistent enough. I don’t see where Garnacho plays at Chelsea, but Nkunku walks into the Man United team.”

As always, it’s pretty hard to disagree with Merse. The good news is, he’s backed up to beat City later, too…
