Wrexham striker Sam Dalby has found himself at a career crossroads as his contract winds down at the STōK Cae Ras, with Blackpool emerging as potential suitors for the in-form forward.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season on loan at Dundee United, netting 14 goals in 33 Scottish Premiership appearances, marking a significant improvement on his previous goal return for the Red Dragons.

His impressive performances have even earned him a spot in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year, becoming one of only two players outside Celtic and Rangers to make the prestigious eleven.

While Wrexham have offered Dalby a contract extension to consider, reports from FLW revealed in February that the striker had already rejected one proposal from the Welsh club. With his current deal set to expire on June 30th, and Wrexham securing promotion to the Championship for the 2025/26 season, the striker's future remains uncertain.

Adding further intrigue to the situation, Blackpool manager Steve Bruce was reportedly in attendance to watch Dalby during Dundee United's 2-0 defeat to St Mirren last Saturday, suggesting the League One side are seriously considering a move for the forward.

We asked our FLW Wrexham Fan Pundit, Liam Grice, for his thoughts on whether there's any chance Dalby remains at Wrexham beyond this summer with Blackpool circling.

"I can't really imagine he's in Phil Parkinson's plans post the end of this season. Although he's done brilliantly in Scotland and has certainly contributed at points to this Wrexham side, there's not really a Championship level quality player in there.

"I think Parkinson will be targeting a higher quality of player in the squad as a whole going into the new season, I can't really see Dalby being part of his plans unfortunately, as much as a likeable character as he is and did very well in the Scottish Prem last season.

"I think Parky will be looking to go in a different direction, he'll be a good fit for Blackpool and Steve Bruce, and he certainly knows where the net is so he'll be a very good addition for them. I just don't think he's at the level that Parky wants in his squad going into the Championship."

While he initially helped Wrexham secure the National League title in his first season, his goal-scoring record at the Welsh club has been modest compared to his recent exploits in Scotland. With 13 goals and 12 assists in 88 matches for the Red Dragons, his loan move has proven to be somewhat of a career renaissance.

Dalby facing crucial career decision with Blackpool circling

With Wrexham preparing for life in the Championship and potentially looking at upgrading their attacking options, Dalby would likely face significant competition for playing time if he did opt to stay. The club may target more experienced Championship-level attackers during the summer transfer window.

A move to Blackpool could offer Dalby regular first-team football under an experienced manager in Steve Bruce, who clearly sees potential in the striker based on his scouting mission. The Tangerines finished ninth in League One, and would likely position Dalby as a key figure in their push for promotion next season.

As the striker enjoys the final games of his successful loan spell with Dundee United, who are still pursuing European qualification, the countdown to his contract expiration continues with his future hanging in the balance.
