Manchester City hold a confirmed intention to sign Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands international full-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to reports.

Confirmation of such an intention comes as many Manchester City fans continue to grow frustrated with the performances levels of club captain and seemingly mainstay right-back option, Kyle Walker.

The club’s long-standing and hugely successful defender has been integral to Pep Guardiola’s success since joining the club in a big-money move from Tottenham in the summer of 2017, but has since shown multiple examples of his physical capabilities decreasing.

Having been defeated in multiple one-versus-one scenarios against the likes of Fulham’s Adama Traore, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, and Tottenham’s Timo Werner in recent weeks, some supporters have been calling upon the club to seek out replacements.

And it appears as though those hopes are recognised and shared by decision makers within the Etihad Stadium, who are preparing to make significant changes to the playing squad at Manchester City during 2025.

According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘FPLMaineRoad’ on X, the reigning Premier League champions will try and sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong – a former member of the Etihad Stadium’s youth ranks.

It is further clarified that there is no buy-back clause in the player’s current agreement with the Bundesliga club, whilst it is also stated that there is nothing to suggest that City will make their move for the player in the upcoming winter market.

Frimpong has a long connection to the city of Manchester and a bond with the Etihad Stadium club too, having first joined the club’s Academy system at the age of nine before going on to progress through it’s youth ranks.

Having featured regularly for Manchester City at both Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League level, Frimpong would go on to make his strides in the senior professional game thanks to a four-year deal struck with Celtic in 2019.

Two years later and the now-23 year-old would make another step upwards on the European scene by joining Bayer Leverkusen and developing his game under Xabi Alonso, to the point where he is now one of the most in-demand defenders in European football.
