That is according to an update from Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak via X, as Sergej Jakirovic looks to add further depth to his squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign, despite the well-documented financial uncertainty which hangs over the East Yorkshire club just weeks into his tenure as head coach.

The Bosnian was sourced as Ruben Selles' successor in June, but since then, City have been hit with two transfer embargoes - both of which have been lifted - but are still waiting to learn their fate regarding the appeal of a three-window transfer fee restriction, which would severely impact the club's transfer policy between now and 2027.

Acun Ilicali remains "confident" that the circumstances can be overturned, and there have been contrasting reports as to when the club are likely to hear the outcome, with some suggesting that it may not occur until after the first game of the season against Coventry City in three weeks' time.

As a result, much of the discussion regarding transfer activity in HU3 has largely centered around outgoings, with long-serving defender Sean McLoughlin the latest to depart, joining divisional rivals Blackburn Rovers.

However, adding the aforementioned Akintola on a free transfer would boost experience and depth in the attacking department.

Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak has revealed via his X account on Sunday that Hull City want to sign free agent winger, David Akintola.

Much like many of the Tigers' incomings in the three-and-a-half years of Ilicali's spell as owner, Akintola has strong connections to the Turkish game.

The 29-year-old recently departed Süper Lig outfit Caykur Rizespor after a solitary season with the club, whilst also previously featuring for Adana Demirspor in just shy of a four-year spell, having been contracted to Danish side FC Midtjylland.

Capable of featuring on either flank - although predominantly a left-sided wide player - Akintola made 32 league appearances last term, scoring on three occasions and registering a further five assists, before ending his association with the club, who finished ninth in the Turkish top flight last season, with a farewell post on his personal Instagram profile.

The 29-year-old has also played for the likes of Omonia Nicosia, Rosenborg, FK Haugesund, Jerv and Hatayspor on loan after coming through the youth ranks of FC Midtjylland.

Hull's sporting director, Jared Dublin, has admitted that the club are covering all bases when it comes to potential incomings, having already missed out on the re-signing of Louie Barry from Aston Villa, as well as deals for Lewis O'Brien and Oli McBurnie.

However, as per Ozbudak's aforementioned update, the potential signing of the Nigerian winger wouldn't be impacted by the club's current transfer restrictions given his availability as a free agent, with the club also weighing up a decision on whether to give Jonjo Shelvey a contract, having been involved in early pre-season outings following his release from Burnley.

David Akintola addition could ease pressure on long-term Hull City absentees amid winger exit talk

Hull struggled massively in terms of creativity and prolificacy last season, ending their relegation escape with a tally of just 44 goals in 46 games, and no player scoring more than six times on an individual level.

This wasn't helped by the long-term injuries picked up by Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi, who, when they eventually return to action, will be pinpointed as two key men for Jakirovic based on their performance levels in a limited sample size last season.

However, further additions on the flanks will help ease the pressure on the duo to immediately hit the ground running, as well as compensating for the potential loss of Abu Kamara, who has recently been the subject of exit talk, with SPFL giants Rangers hoping to strike a cut-price deal for the 21-year-old.

Therefore, on a free transfer, adding an experienced and versatile wideman who has top-flight pedigree in numerous European leagues, could be a highly shrewd piece of business for Hull City to make.
