Eiran Cashin has been imperious for Derby since his debut in 2021, and could be the perfect defender to fit into the side.

Hull City will need to act fast to replace Jacob Greaves, with the defender set to make a move to the Premier League with Ipswich Town.

According to Football Insider, both Greaves and Hull teammate, Jaden Philogene, will make the move to the Tractor Boys in the coming days in a deal worth £35 million.

With such a high transfer fee for the pair, the Tigers will need to utilise it to make moves to replace both players, especially for Greaves, whose defensive capabilities were a major reason behind their play-off push last season.

There has been interest from across the top flight for Greaves and Philogene, however, it looks as though last season's Championship runners-up will win the race, as they strengthen ahead of their first season in the Premier League since 2002.

Eiran Cashin is a name that has been linked with a move to the Premier League within the last year, but Hull should take advantage of their new-found wealth to try and pry him from Derby County's clutches.

Eiran Cashin has been a revelation for Derby County

The Rams' 22-year-old centre-back has been near-perfect for the last two seasons in League One, after breaking into the team in 2021 under the guidance of Wayne Rooney in a season where County struggled to stay afloat because of administration.

Cashin's ability to read the game and the way he is able to use his body, despite his height, was a key reason behind Derby's promotion, as he formed a superb partnership with Curtis Nelson, as his team conceded just 37 goals in 46 games - the best in the division.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international was rewarded for his performances with a place in the League One Team of the Season, as Paul Warne's side finished second behind Portsmouth in the standings.

Cashin won 75.8% of his tackles last season, while also coming out on top in 390 duels against his opponents. It is not just one-on-one where he finds his strengths, as he claimed the most interceptions in the league, cutting out key passes and stopping rival attacks 71 times.

Derby County will want to resist any potential Hull City offer for Eiran Cashin

The Rams have been able to fend off Brighton & Hove Albion in the last two transfer windows, before securing the services of their number six for the next three years with a new contract at the start of 2024.

Nevertheless, there will be a price that Warne and owner David Clowes will struggle to turn down, and with the sales of Greaves and Philogene, the Tigers do have the cash to entice Cashin to the MKM Stadium ahead of the new Championship season, and being left-footed, he is the ideal domestic successor at the back.

In the past, Derby have rejected bids of under £3 million, with Brighton coming close to bringing Cashin in on deadline day last summer, but with a new contract, a higher fee will need to be offered.

Hull must accept that the Rams will want over £5 million for their academy graduate, especially considering his importance to the team as a whole.

Cashin is a future captain at Pride Park, and is adored by supporters as one of their own, with Warne also a huge fan, playing him in all but two league games last season, with the 22-year-old only missing out due to a suspension and a strain.

Cashin is the perfect man to fill the hole that will be left by Greaves, with both players the same age and left-footed, but no promises can be given about whether Derby will sell one of their very best.
