Liverpool’s newly signed striker Hugo Ekitike has insisted that now was the 'perfect moment' for his move to Anfield, insisting the timing aligns with his ambition to prove himself at the highest level.
The 23‑year‑old forward, who joined the Premier League champions from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this week, spoke exclusively from Hong Kong after training with his new teammates.
Reflecting on his decision, Ekitike said he felt both proud and like 'a bit of a kid' at the prospect of playing in the Premier League and aiming to win trophies with Liverpool.
Ekitike has described his move to Anfield as 'a perfect moment' in his career, saying he is ready to challenge himself at the highest level after completing a transfer from the German giants.
Speaking to the club's official website, the French striker reflected on the whirlwind nature of the deal and why now felt like the right step.
“I’m really proud and happy,” Ekitike said. “To be a part of this big club is something amazing. I know that the project is very good – that’s why I made this choice. I’m very happy to be a Red today.”
The 23-year-old, who scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga last season, spoke about the rapid development in his career and how he now feels equipped to contribute to a club of Liverpool’s stature. “The feeling is really good. I feel like a kid a little bit, you know? When you arrive in a club like this, with a big history, with the fans and everything around it, it’s just incredible,” he said.
“It’s the right moment for me. I had a great season in Germany and I feel like I’ve taken big steps in my career. So now, to come to a club like Liverpool – to keep improving and help the team – it’s perfect.”
Despite only completing his medical two days earlier, Ekitike has already begun training with Arne Slot’s squad. “It was quick but I enjoyed every moment,” he said. “I live day by day, so I enjoy every time I have here.”
He also praised the warm welcome from teammates and staff, adding: “Everybody was very kind and gave me a good feeling straight away. That’s something very important when you arrive in a new environment.”
The Frenchman concluded: “I want to give everything for the club and for the supporters. It’s a big challenge – but I’m ready.”
