Eddie Howe has said he wants Newcastle United to move quickly to secure targets in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle face Everton in the Premier League this weekend and a win at St James’ Park will secure Champions League qualification.
Attention will then turn to the summer transfer window, which opens on June 1 for an initial 10-day period to enable registration for clubs participating in the Club World Cup. The window will then re-open on June 16 and close on September 1st. All Premier League and EFL clubs can conduct business during the first mini-window.
Howe is keen to strengthen his squad with a centre-back and winger understood to be on the agenda for the Magpies. Newcastle failed with a bid to sign Marc Guehi form Crystal Palace last summer and could return with a renewed offer for the England defender.
Discussing the club’s transfer plans, Howe has called on the Newcastle board and recruitment team to take decisive action.
“My mindset is always the same when you come to this time of year,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“You want to act quickly because usually the best available options will move quite quickly.
“If you’re too late to react, you can miss out on potential transfers that could make the difference.
“I am sort of the mindset that you need to be ready in every moment. We pride ourselves on identifying our targets quickly and then we have to act quickly as a football club.”
