England’s pre-tournament form was hit-and-miss, losing to Spain and Belgium in the Nations League, However, in their first match of Euro 2025, they would fall at the hands of France, losing 2-1 and are now in must win territory heading into their final two group games.
Prior to Euro 2025, the Netherlands lost just once in their last seven matches, winning four of them. They eased past tournament debutants Wales 3-0 in their first match as captain Vivianne Miedema scored her 100th goal for her country, and will be looking to add to her total against England.
England XI (4-3-3): Hampton; Bronze, Williamson, Greenwood, Carter; Walsh, Stanway, Toone; Mead, Russo, Hemp.
Netherlands XI (4-3-3): Van Domselaar; Casparij, Janssen, Buurman, Brugts; Groenen, Van de Donk, Kaptein; Pelova, Miedema, Roord.
Sarina Wiegman says England are not thinking about the consequences of losing to the Netherlands: “We don’t talk about consequences, we talk about our game plan. We bring it back to that it’s a game, it’s a football game, and the outcome, of course, has consequences, but that was the same at the final, at the Euros and the World Cup.”
Vivianne Miedema says she and her partner Beth Mead will not be friends when the pair face off tonight: “The golden rule tomorrow is we can talk about anything, just not football. We will not be friends tomorrow. If it’s not a nice moment for Beth, it is not a problem for me. I will be very happy tomorrow.”
