FC Barcelona officially confirmed the loan departure of Ansu Fati to AS Monaco for the 2025/26 season.
The Ligue 1 club also holds a €11 million permanent purchase option for the forward, who extended his contract with Barça until 2028 before securing the exit.
The operation, driven by Deco, allows Barcelona to reduce part of the salary burden generated by the player.
Indeed, Mundo Deportivo reports that Ansu’s exit frees nearly €8 million in salary space for the club: around €5 million from a contract extension until 2028, and nearly €3 million in wages covered by Monaco.
Originally, Ansu had a contract with Barça until 30 June 2027, with a gross salary estimated at €14 million per season. This amounted to approximately €28 million gross over two years.
However, this situation has changed. As in other recent transactions, Barcelona extended the player’s contract by one year, maintaining the same total salary.

As a result, the €28 million will now be distributed across three years, meaning Ansu will earn approximately €9.3 million gross per season (€4.6 million net).
Under the loan agreement, both clubs will split the player’s wages equally. Barcelona will pay €4.7 million gross, and Monaco will assume the same amount.
This operation is significant for Barcelona. First, the club reduces its wage bill by €4.7 million thanks to the contract extension. In addition, Monaco takes on a portion of Ansu’s salary and amortisation.
According to Financial Fair Play regulations, and given that Barcelona are not yet operating under the 1/1 rule, the club can count 60% of the salary and amortisation cost that Monaco assume.
In concrete terms, thanks to the €4.6 million salary being borne by Monaco, Barcelona effectively reduce their wage burden by nearly €2.8 million.
Combining the contract extension and Monaco’s share of the loan, this deal frees almost €8 million gross for Barcelona for the upcoming season.
