How many points Leicester will likely get from tricky festive spell

Two games into the Dutch new-era for Leicester City and four points gained. Under Steve Cooper, Foxes would be forgiven to have predicted zero to one point from the previous two fixtures. That being said, there is much more to do and with the next set of fixtures, that could be difficult.

The King Power side's festive fixtures are as follows: Newcastle United (14th Dec), Wolverhampton Wanderers (22nd Dec), Liverpool (26th Dec), and Manchester City (29th Dec). That means Nistelrooy will need to face two of the top five, one mid-table side, and one relegation rival. I think we all have an expectation for how many points Leicester could accumulate, but there is more to the story.

Leicester City's festive fixtures analysed

The first tie is Newcastle United. With Boubakary Soumare and Wilfred Ndidi - the foundations of the Dutchman's setup - both absent from the fixture due to suspension and injury respectively, the match will be more difficult than that successful outing against 7th placed Brighton & Hove Albion. That one was a late draw salvaged by Jamie Vardy and Bobby De-Cordova Reid.

Newcastle currently sit in 12th with a -2 goal difference. They have achieved 2.46 in non-penalty xG+xA per 90 (NPxG+xA/90) while conceding 2.44. This means they are only barely more creative than their opposition and so have struggled to avoid conceding chances and not scored enough to undo the damage. This is what the King Power side needs to focus on: creating killer chances.
