Manchester United have been linked with a summer move for Sunderland's Jobe Bellingham
Jobe Bellingham has been linked with a move away from Sunderland this summer, with clubs like Manchester United circling.
It was reported earlier this week by TEAMtalk that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bellingham joined Sunderland in the summer of 2023 from Birmingham City, and has become a key part of the team in that time, making 89 appearances in the Championship.
The youngster has contributed 11 goals and four assists in the league in total, with Régis Le Bris’ side competing for promotion to the Premier League this season.
Here, we use estimated figures from Capology to compare his current wages to the rest of Man United’s midfield options…
Jobe Bellingham made the switch from Birmingham at the age of 17 in a deal worth a reported £3 million, after making just 24 Championship appearances for Blues.
And according to Capology's estimtes, Bellingham's wage at Sunderland amounts to £12,500 per week, which is above average for Le Bris’ squad.
The average weekly salary at the Stadium of Light is estimated to be £10,405, which would be the result of keeping a young and inexperienced side.
Bellingham is the third-highest paid permanent member of the Black Cats’ squad, with only Dan Ballard and Alan Browne estimated to be earning more, £25,000 and £15,000 per week respectively.
If the midfielder does depart in the summer, then he will be hoping to earn a significant pay rise, particularly if he’s sold for a deal in the region of £20 million to 25 million, which Football Insider reports is Sunderland’s asking price.
However, even with a wage increase, his salary at somewhere like Man United may not reach the figures currently in Ruben Amorim’s first team squad.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes is not the highest-paid midfielder at Man United, but his recent contract extension last year is the best indicator of how the club now spends its resources under its new structure.
The 30-year-old is estimated to be receiving £300,000 per week as part of his new deal, which runs until 2027.
Casemiro is the estimated highest paid player at Man United, with the experienced Brazilian midfielder earning a whopping £350,000 per week.
The 33-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2026, but could be set to depart Old Trafford in 2025 given his decrease in game time under Ruben Amorim.
Christian Eriksen is also likely to leave the club at the end of the campaign, with the Dane’s deal, which is worth £150,000-a-week, expiring in June.
Manuel Ugarte would be a likely midfield partner to Bellingham, should he join the club, with the 23-year-old earning an estimated £120,000 per week following his summer move from PSG last year.
Meanwhile, academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer are receiving £20,000 and £5,000 per week, respectively, as per Capology.
What Bellingham could expect to earn perhaps lies somewhere in the middle of Ugarte and Mainoo, with the latter reportedly set to turn down a new contract that comes with a pay increase.
Given Man United’s difficult campaign, with the Red Devils currently 13th in the Premier League, it remains to be seen whether Bellingham could be convinced to move to the side during a significant rebuilding phase.
