Real Madrid appear to have secured one major defensive reinforcement with a deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold understood to be close to completion.

The Merengues have their sights set on another Premier League defender for the summer in the form of AFC Bournemouth starlet Dean Huijsen.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a target to bolster the backline and Real Madrid plan on making a move for the Spaniard, who has a £50 million release clause in his contract with the Cherries.

Chelsea complicate matters

However, according to Cadena SER, Real Madrid face a significant obstacle in their pursuit of Dean Huijsen, with Chelsea also seeking the young defender’s signing.

Real Madrid have been tracking the Bournemouth player for the past two years. In January, the club held serious talks with Donny Huijsen, the player’s father and agent.

During his visit to Valdebebas, Huijsen Sr. observed training sessions of the Juvenil and Real Madrid Castilla squads and even met with Florentino Perez, who outlined the club’s vision for his son’s career.

However, Chelsea have entered the race for the Spanish international’s signature, making things complicated for Los Blancos.

The Blues plan on convincing Huijsen to choose them over Real Madrid by offering him a higher salary than the reigning champions of Spain and Europe.

Despite this, sources suggest that if the offers are similar, both the player and his entourage would prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu on a long-term contract – with his father even dropping a possible hint about it.

However, if Chelsea offer much more money than Real Madrid, the final decision may depend on Huijsen’s vision for his career.
