Out-of-favour Barcelona star Ansu Fati played a direct hand in the club’s failure to land Marcus Rashford from Manchester United during the winter transfer window.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has this week provided an insight into the situation.
Wide-man Rashford has of course seen his name position itself front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last couple of weeks.
This comes with the 27-year-old having been included on a shortlist of attacking targets drawn up by Deco and the Barcelona board, with a view to next season.
This is the 2nd time in the space of just half a year that Rashford has been targeted by the Blaugrana, after also being earmarked as a potential signing back in January.
And as alluded to above, this week, an insight into precisely why a mid-season move for the Englishman failed to come to fruition has been provided.
Speaking during an appearance on DAZN, the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano explained:
‘The deal didn’t happen at the time due to Ansu Fati’s refusal to leave. Now, with Fati’s departure to Monaco imminent, Rashford is still waiting for Barcelona and considers it his first choice, despite offers from English and Saudi clubs.’
