Thomas Tuchel selected three Arsenal players for England’s friendly against Senegal at the City Ground last night.

However, they failed to impress as Tuchel suffered his first defeat as the national team manager.

The Three Lions were in the ascendancy after Harry Kane tapped home an early goal, but Ismaila Sarr restored parity shortly before half-time.

Senegal took the lead just after the hour mark, with Habib Diarra firing through Dean Henderson’s legs to score.

England pushed for an equaliser and had a late strike from Jude Bellingham ruled out for handball after a VAR review.

Cheikh Sabaly added another in stoppage time as the African team recorded an impressive 3-1 win.

Arsenal trio fail to shine

Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly were part of the starting XI against Senegal, but none of them had a good game.

Saka showed glimpses of his quality, forcing a brilliant save from Edouard Mendy, but he was largely anonymous during the 71 minutes he was on the pitch.

The 23-year-old had 25 touches, completed one of his four dribbles and lost possession eight times.

Rice was also way off the pace. The midfielder failed to make a meaningful impact and was replaced for the final 20 minutes.

He had 51 touches in the match but lost possession on seven occasions and won zero duels.

Lewis-Skelly was at fault for the second goal as his poor positioning allowed Diarra to gallop down the right flank and score.

The young left-back posted better statistics than his club teammates, but his overall display was far from satisfactory.
