Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim got a stark reminder of the monumental challenge ahead of him after the 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Andre Onana and Amad Diallo impressed the new manager, but there were a few players who failed in their audition.
Jonny Evans, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen produced a disappointing display and could leave the club next summer.
Amorim chose Casemiro and Eriksen in midfield, but they lacked intensity as Ipswich dominated the centre of the park.
The duo were not mobile and left gaps in midfield.
Eriksen is known for his creativity but failed to make a single key pass against a recently-promoted side.
He also lost possession ten times, which would have frustrated Amorim as he wants his players to be wiser with the ball.
Casemiro was in fine form under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, but he was one of the worst performers against the Tractor Boys.
He had only 71 percent passing accuracy and was dribbled past twice.
The Brazil international failed to get tighter to Omari Hutchinson, allowing him to score the equaliser.
Evans started in the left centre-back spot and was exposed due to his lack of pace.
The veteran defender was repeatedly pulled away from the backline and did not have the engine to return to his position.
He has been a reliable defender since his return, but it is time for United to look at the future.
Evans and Eriksen have contracts which expire in 2025, and the club must bid farewell to them.
United will also hope to cash in on Casemiro next summer.
