After an entertaining 4-4 draw with VfB Stuttgart, Union Berlin forward, Benedict Hollerbach stated his case for an international call-up, challenging Germany Head Coach, Julian Nagelsmann to select him.

Hollerbach has been a rare bright light for Union Berlin in an otherwise dour season.

Recent form has lifted them away from relegation and, in large part, Union have Hollerbach to thank.

His eight goals, including critical winners against Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim have brought Union Berlin ten points since January.

In a Sky interview, Hollerbach was honest and open about his international ambitions:

“Yes, I’m sure I’ll make it. Simple as that. I have qualities that will prevail in the long run.”

Hollerbach laid down the gauntlet to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, who will announce his squad for the Final Four of the Nations League in early June in a few weeks.

In a season where Union Berlin has outperformed, Hollerbach feels has proven his ability to thrive under pressure.

Often, Union Berlin have played with a single forward and magical moments from Hollerbach have turned games on their head, offering speed, aggression, skill and commitment.

Hollerbach feels he is ready for international football.

“Being a national player is the holy grail of football – the attention after you is completely different.”

It is unclear whether he will get the opportunity to play international football with Union Berlin.

Whilst his contract runs until 2027, Hollerbach is on the radar of several Bundesliga clubs, including Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Gladbach is looking for pace and Hollerbach is looking for European football.

With Gladbach currently three points of Mainz 05 in the final qualification place, they still have work to do, but they are well-placed for attract the talents of Hollerbach.

Hollerbach will be watching the end of their Bundesliga with keen interest.
