Kicker reports that former Fulham man and Arsenal scout Moritz Volz may soon earn an assistant coaching position at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The Bundesliga outfit apparently consider the 42-year-old an ideal replacement for the recently departed Bruno Hübner, who moved up to the German national team.

Hoffenheim have thus far stuck to their decision to keep head coach Christian Ilzer in place ahead of next season, but are shedding assistant coaches (along with players) at a steady rate. Frank Fröhling and Alexander Stolz departed on expiring contracts late this week.

Volz was born in Siegen and briefly served in Schalke 04’s Knappenschmiede academy before moving to the Arsenal ranks in 1999. The right back never ended up featuring for the Gunners and was sold to Fulham in 2004.

Volz ended up making 125 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers between 2004 and 2009. He also featured on loan at Ipswich town and Wimbledon in the Championship.

Volz ended up making his Bundesliga debut for FC St. Pauli at the age of 27. He concluded his career with the Kiezkicker and 1860 Munich in the 2. Bundesliga in his final four seasons between 2011 and 2015.

Volz’s career after his retirement included not only a stint as an Arsenal scout, but also some time working beside current German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann during his time at RB Leipzig.

Volz also worked as an assistant at Galatasaray Istanbul and a co-coach for the FC Bayern Munich women’s team.
