Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are working toward a solution regarding the transfer of Manuel Ugarte. Moreover, one pundit believes that the Uruguayan’s potential arrival would help fill the hole in the midfield.

L’Equipe reported on Wednesday that negotiations between PSG and Manchester United for a loan deal with a €60 million obligation to buy for Ugarte are nearing a successful conclusion.

The two clubs have greatly narrowed their differences this evening, and the deal could be completed within the next few hours. On Wednesday, talkSPORT pundit Flex explained why he’s a fan of the potential move, which would bolster the team’s midfield.

“Manuel Ugarte, in terms of the profile of what he can bring and the type of player he is, looks like, stats-wise and on the eye test, that he can plug the holes that Manchester United need plugin,” Flex said. “I mean, he’s a ball-winner. He can win duels. He can cover the ground. He’s aggressive. He’s on the front foot. He won’t give us as much in terms of the goals output. Casimiro actually has a really good knack of getting on the end of things. He’s good with his head. He’s got a few goals as well.

“He won’t give us that, but those gaping holes in the midfield when we’re trying to go on the press, and someone makes a silly pass, or the move breaks down and all of a sudden we’re running back towards our own goal, looking like we’ve got parachutes on our backs sometimes. Hopefully, he’s going to come in there and fix that or begin to fix it, at least.”

Ugarte made 37 total appearances for the reigning Ligue 1 champions last season, recording three assists.

The former Sporting Lisbon standout began the first half of the campaign in impressive fashion, but his minutes fell off in the second half of the season as he was used more as a rotational player rather than a starter.
