Both Inter and Verona went into yesterday evening’s match feeling that they had attained their objective for the season.

The Nerazzurri had clinched the Serie A title more than a month ago.

And the Gialloblu had already guaranteed their safety in Serie A. They confirmed that it would be mathematically impossible for them to be relegated with their victory over Salernitana last week.

But with the pressure off of both teams, there was plenty of motivation to end the season on a high note.

And that is what both Inter and Verona did. The two teams played attacking football, creating a great advertisement for Serie A in the process.

It was Marko Arnautovic who opened the scoring early on for Inter.

Then, Verona forwards Tijani Noslin and Tomas Suslov turned the match around, making it 2-1.

And then just before halftime, Arnautovic scored again to equalizer.

In the second half, there were plenty of chances for both sides.

But neither Inter nor Verona were able to find the winner, as the match finished 2-2.

It was an impressive display from the Gialloblu.

Consdering the tumultuous January transfer window they had, Baroni and his players have won plaudits for managing to avoid the drop.

And, against the team who have been the dominant force in Serie A on their way to the league title, Verona showed just why they will be in the top flight for another season.

Baroni said after the match that “There were tough moments.”

“Sixteen players came and went,” the coach noted of Verona’s transfer business. “And we brought in 40% of them from leagues other than Serie A.”

“Today I asked the team for a top performance,” Baroni went on. “To show who we are.”

The Gialloblu coach said that “Today the players who took to the pitch attacked Inter.”

“We always pressed high, and I’m happy for the guys as well as the fans,” Baroni said.

“Because even in the difficult moments, they’ve supported us. They’ve always given us great energy.”

“Today was a celebration for everyone. But I wanted the celebration to be after the match.”

“It was important to still give our fans something to cheer for,” the Verona coach added. “And we did that.”
