Trevoh Chalobah has backed England head coach Thomas Tuchel to bring the same “winning culture” he established at Chelsea to the Three Lions squad.
Tuchel handed Blues defender Chalobah his Chelsea debut back in 2021 and has now given him his first call-up to the England senior side.
And the 25-year-old spoke of his excitement at getting to work with Tuchel again.
“Obviously he’s the one that gave me my Chelsea debut,” he said.
“There’s been good moments shared with him. He’s a very tough manager and I think that’s what us as players need going into the World Cup next year and these games to build us up.
“He wants to win. He’s a winner. He won at Chelsea and he will bring that same winning culture here.”
Chalobah spent the first part of the season on loan at Crystal Palace, before being recalled by Chelsea and becoming a key player under Enzo Maresca to help his side qualify for the Champions League.
He is joined in the England squad by club team-mates Levi Colwill, Reece James, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke, as well as former Blues midfielder Conor Gallagher, and says it is rewarding to share this experience with those players.
“Individually for me, it’s been a very good season,” he said.
“This has been one of my goals and it’s good to share it with the Chelsea players. It just shows the quality that Chelsea produce and the players. It’s good to be here with them also to share that moment.
“They’ve obviously helped me and it’s been good.
“It just shows the quality and the players Chelsea have produced over the years that have been called up to England. It’s going to carry on hopefully.
“It’s been amazing and I’m grateful to be here.”
After the internationals games against Andorra and then Senegal, Chalobah will travel to the USA to play in the Club World Cup with Chelsea, something he says is a good opportunity for the club.
“These are the times, after internationals, that you probably want a holiday,” he said.
“It is going to be physically tough, obviously in a different environment, but us players want to be competing at the highest level and playing against very good teams.
“This is what us footballers want to be doing and hopefully we can get the trophy.
“It’s going to be huge. It’s a new tournament and we’re going to be competing against some of the best teams in the world. It’s a time for us to show our level, how we finished the season, how we’ve done this season, to go out there and give it everything.”
