Myles Lewis-Skelly, who recently signed a new contract with the Gunners, has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the Arsenal squad, and the youngster has now opened up about what it is like to work under Mikel Arteta. After a stellar breakthrough campaign in 2024-25, where he made 39 appearances and became the club’s first-choice left-back in the second half of the season, Lewis-Skelly continues to impress fans and pundits alike with his maturity and talent.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, the 18-year-old was full of praise for the Arsenal boss. Describing Arteta as “demanding in the best way,” Lewis-Skelly explained what it takes to survive and thrive under his management. “He holds you to a high standard, and if you don’t meet that standard, he’s going to let you know about it. You can’t get away with being silly in training; you’ve got to be on your A-game and apply yourself.”

He was also asked whether he enjoys training under such intensity: “Training is so important as a player, because it’s where you build a foundation. That’s where you lay the soil for your game, and everything you see on the weekend on the pitch comes from that, so I take it seriously. The whole team are always so competitive, but it helps keep that mindset through into the game.”

Discipline, Mindset and Maturity

While Lewis-Skelly has played well beyond his years, the journey hasn’t been without its bumps. He was sent off twice during the campaign, although one red card was later rescinded. Questions were occasionally raised about his discipline, but few would argue that his commitment and passion haven’t been an asset to Arsenal and to England.

With his mentality, technical skill and adaptability, the teenager has all the hallmarks of a future Arsenal great. His performance in the recent 3-2 friendly defeat to Villarreal showed again why he is trusted by Arteta heading into a difficult start to the new season.

The Arteta Effect

Lewis-Skelly’s comments speak volumes about the culture Mikel Arteta has built in north London. Demanding excellence but fostering growth, Arteta’s leadership continues to shape Arsenal’s next generation, and Lewis-Skelly looks like a star in the making.
