Has the path been cleared for Manchester City to make a summer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich? Kimmich is reportedly just one of several summer transfer targets for the world champions. A new report indicates that City may have received a boost to their chances of signing the Bayern Munich midfielder.

A report from Graeme Bailey, which was relayed by Dan Owen for hitc.com, indicates that City’s chances of signing Kimmich may be boosted by Bayern Munich looking to extend Thomas Tuchel’s contract at the club. Furthermore, they add that Kimmich has 12 months remaining on his current contract with Bayern. Owen and Bailey add that the Bayern Munich midfielder has a strained relationship with Tuchel. They further report that this new development surrounding Tuchel’s future may set the scene for Manchester City to pounce this summer. Will Manchester City now make their move for Joshua Kimmich?

The report from hitc.com indicates that the chance for Manchester City to make their move for Joshua Kimmich may have opened up. Kimmich has had an illustrious career with Bayern Munich, but the time may be now for the German international to seek a new challenge. If that proves to be the case, City does look to be at the front of the queue for his signature.

But is Kimmich the ideal player for Manchester City to bring in to support Rodri? On paper, he does appear well suited to a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. With his versatility and experience, he could immediately provide solid support for Rodri. One possible reason for City to look elsewhere is Kimmich’s age. The German international is 29, and on occasions, his performances this season have indicated that his best form is behind him. While he is still a quality player, he doesn’t appear to be the player he once was.

The champions are also linked with a potential move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Ben Jacobs has reported for caughtoffside.com that City have made contact with the camp of Bruno Guimaraes. With a £100 million release clause in the Brazilians contract with Newcastle, it may be to steep a price to pay for Manchester City.

It may not be as simple as the path being clear for City to make their move for Kimmich. Other factors may decide if they move for the Bayern Munich midfielder. It may also depend on if the champions pursue their interest in Guimaraes or look elsewhere. If they deem the price for Guimaraes to steep, Kimmich may be a cheaper alternative. The answer to this question will become apparent once the summer transfer window opens.
