Liverpool could be set for a major rebuilding project next summer.
Arne Slot felt that he didn’t need to buy any players as he inherited a very good squad from Jurgen Klopp, but next summer could be a bit different, especially if Liverpool end the season with a few trophies.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold could all leave the club, but there could be more exodus.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott could face an uncertain future and he “may have to look elsewhere” for regular game time.
Premier League rivals Brighton have been mooted as a potential destination for Elliott.
German giants Borussia Dortmund are also interested in signing him, while Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen could make an approach for him in the market as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz.
It will not come as a big surprise if Liverpool receive a big offer for him, although it is unclear whether the Reds at all would be interested to part ways with such a highly talented player.
At 21, Elliott should be playing regularly. He featured heavily under Klopp last season, but he has not been able to cement his place in the side under Slot.
Elliott has not made a single start in the Premier League this season. He has managed only 76 minutes of action in the league.
In the Champions League, he started in the final game (Liverpool already had qualified by that time) and has appeared in domestic cup games.
Slot said after the 2-0 win against Newcastle United that while it is comforting to find that the players will get enough rest ahead of their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, he could have used Elliott or Federico Chiesa in the FA Cup if they were still alive in the competition.
