Coventry City are in the midst of a promotion push in the Championship under Frank Lampard.

The Sky Blues are inside the top six in the Championship table as things stand, and with a nice balance of fixtures against sides around them and teams towards the bottom of the division still to play between now and the end of the season, they should feel confident that they can reach the play-offs.

Lampard has overseen an outstanding run of form at the CBS Arena in recent months, with his side having won 10 of their last 13 games in the league, which has propelled them into play-off contention.

Everything seems to be going to plan for Coventry on the pitch, and their supporters are now likely to be content with things off it, as Doug King's unpopular decision to part company with Mark Robins earlier this season is now looking to have been the right one.

"Ambitious" Coventry owner praised by fan pundit

We asked our Coventry fan pundit, Chris Deez, whether he thinks Doug King is in it for the long haul, and he made it clear that he believes the owner is fully committed to the project.

"When it comes to Doug King, it is sort of hard to say from the outside looking in," Chris said.

"He came in during an extremely difficult time for Coventry and for our fans. He bought the club out from SISU, who were our toxic, quite frankly, scumbag, previous owners.

"He backed Mark Robins substantially, and he has backed Frank Lampard a little bit so far. I mean, he has only had one window, and he let him spend £3.5 million on a player, so I think he is looking ahead to the future.

"He does not strike me as the sort of guy who has come in to buy the club, make a bit of a turnover, make a bit of a profit, and then sell the club on.

"He came very close to striking gold immediately when he came in, with the Championship play-off final at Wembley literally about four months after he came in and bought the club, so he sees the potential, he sees that there is a club ready to get back to where it used to be.

"We are an ambitious club, we've got an ambitious manager, I think we've got an ambitious owner.

"I do hope that he manages to buy the stadium in the future from Mike Ashley, so then we can properly push on and just have the club look after itself, which would be the first time in years. Probably since Highfield Road, actually."

King could lead Coventry to the Premier League

There was plenty of disappointment amongst Coventry fans when Robins was relieved of his duties earlier this season, but that decision now looks to have paid off for King.

The Coventry owner seems to be getting closer to achieving his goal of taking the club into the Premier League, so there is no reason why he should not be fully committed to the journey long-term.

Even if the Sky Blues fall short this season, King's track record now suggests that he should be trusted to get the big decisions right as they look to secure promotion from the Championship as soon as possible, so it is not a huge surprise that our fan pundit, Chris, trusts that he is in it for the long haul.
