Hansi Flick has not made many demands since joining FC Barcelona. He has been content with the players at his disposal and has placed a great deal of confidence in La Masia talents.
The German coach has managed to bring out the best in each player in the squad. With sufficient depth and two options for almost every position across the pitch, the upcoming season promises to be even more crucial.
Last season, Barcelona won everything except the UEFA Champions League, where they bowed out in the semi-finals. In that match against Inter Milan, the Catalans were without both of their starting full-backs: Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
Now, according to Fichajes, Hansi Flick is reportedly disappointed with Joan Laporta and the Barcelona board for failing to reinforce the full-back positions by signing a versatile defender capable of playing on either flank.
The German coach has been categorically informed that there is no financial leeway to bring in a new player for this position this summer and that he will have to make do with the options at his disposal.
While Flick may be disappointed, he has also found potential solutions during the pre-season tour. On the right, Eric Garcia has looked comfortable, and there’s no reason not to consider him a reliable backup for Kounde.
On the left, the emergence of Jofre Torrents has softened the blow. The young Spaniard looks like a proper stylistic replacement for Balde, and let’s wait and see if the duo can have the full-back positions covered for Hansi Flick in the upcoming season.
