The Spanish press have blasted Sevilla coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ decision to barely play Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri this season.

The campaign started positively for the Tunisian as he managed to make his way into the United first team squad and even scored his first goal as a Red Devil, smacking in a great goal in the 1-3 home loss to Brighton in September.

In fact, Erik ten Hag was mightily impressed with the Tunisia international, calling his performance “perfect” against Burnley at the end of September.

However, by Halloween the player’s role in the team had dwindled and it was decided that he would go out on loan to Sevilla in the January window.

Mejbri spoke of his excitement on the move and suggested that the style of football and league would be a great fit.

However, what has followed has been a nightmare. A falling out in training saw the midfielder briefly excluded from the squad before quickly being reinstated by the coach.

However, all in all, the player has had little to no opportunity to show off his skills in Spain. He has played only six games this calendar year, for a combined 101 minutes of football.

In fact, since the 3rd of March, he has played a grand total of 11 minutes of football in Sevilla, in what has been a devastating season for the 21 year old’s development.

Local newspaper, Diario de Sevilla has highlighted the issue and blasted the coach’s role in the decision.

Sevilla have been far from impressive themselves, collecting 41 points from 37 games and floundering in 13th place in the table.

The paper claims that Flores has “systematically ignored” Mejbri throughout the season and they believe he, alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz, have both been victims of a disagreement between the sporting management and the coach.

“Nor has the very limited prominence of Hannibal Mejbri been logical, whose arrival aroused a certain enthusiasm among the fans due to the technical and creative profile of the Tunisian midfielder, who also came from a European aristocrat such as Manchester United.”

The newspaper claims that both players “will return to England with the feeling of having lost half a year in their sporting career.”

The 21 year old’s inner circle have already complained about the lack of chances that he has received during his nightmare in Andalusia.

Hannibal’s future is far from secure at the club as it was reported that United will aim to sell him in the window as INEOS aim to carry out a massive clear out this summer to generate funds and comply with strict PSR rules.
