Milan are searching for a new striker and the latest reports from Italy claim that two of their favourite candidates are Sporting’s Victor Gyokeres and Atalanta forward Mateo Retegui.

The Rossoneri’s search for a classic goalscoring number nine has led them to identify the Swede and Italian as strong options after the players won their respective domestic golden boots in 2024-25.

Reports from the Gazzetta dello Sport, via TMW, this morning suggest that whilst Gyokeres is Milan’s dream signing – Retegui remains a strong alternative.

Neither Gyokeres nor Retegui an ‘easy signing’

Whilst Milan sporting director Igli Tare appears to admire both players greatly, the logistics of signing either remain complicated.

Gyokeres is attracting a lot of attention from big clubs across Europe this summer, with Premier League sides like Arsenal and Manchester United linked with a move for the former Brighton man. Sporting want a reported fee of over €75 million for the Swedish striker and Milan have made it clear they wish to try and remain more sensible in the market.

Retegui, meanwhile, could still potentially cost the Rossoneri in excess of €50 million and whilst that could be easier than a deal for Gyokeres, may force Milan to part ways with an additional player or two.
