The Clarets may need to address a few areas with some excellent additions to enhance their chances of promotion next term.

Burnley are in a fairly strong position ahead of next season.

They may not have appointed a new manager straight after the departure of Vincent Kompany, but looking at their squad, they are more than strong enough to compete for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It's not controversial to suggest that they were nowhere near good enough last season, considering how much the Clarets spent on players.

However, the Championship is a much different kettle of fish to the top flight and even though it looks set to be competitive next term, two of the three teams that came down last term have gone straight back up.

That should give the Lancashire side, who won the second-tier title back in 2023, the opportunity to establish themselves as one of the best teams in their league during the 2024/25 campaign.

With a couple of their former loanees joining permanently, players having contract extension options activated and Jay Rodriguez putting pen to paper on a new deal, the club may not need to make too many signings before the summer transfer window closes.

But there are a few shrewd additions they could make to their squad, and we have listed three players who could be good signings for the Clarets.

Ryan Giles

The left-back area is one that the Lancashire club needs to strengthen this summer, regardless of whether Charlie Taylor puts pen to paper on a new contract or not.

Owen Dodgson may have returned from his loan spell, but he doesn't look set to play a big part for the Clarets next term, and they could benefit from an addition in this area.

Any second-tier side that's keen to sign a left-back this summer will be hoping to recruit someone like Ipswich Town's Leif Davis, who could be a real asset going forward.

Ryan Giles has shown in the past that he can be a threat going forward and, although he could be a fairly expensive addition after switching Luton Town for Hull City with a triggered option-to-buy this summer, the Clarets may be able to afford him if they sell a valuable player like Wout Weghorst.

Having plenty of experience at this level and able to operate as a defensive full-back, he could be a good addition to have for a promotion-chasing team.

Callum O'Hare

With Johann Berg Gudmundsson being released, and Scott Twine set to be sold during the summer window, the attacking midfield department may need to be strengthened, depending on next season's formation.

But regardless of this, a midfielder who can contribute in the attacking third could be important, and it could be key in guiding the club back to the top tier.

Coventry City star O'Hare, who was a real asset last term after returning from his long-term injury, should be under consideration as a potential option.

Able to make a real difference in the centre and proving to be a real threat in the final third during his time in the second tier, he could be an excellent fit if they can persuade him to make the move to Turf Moor.

Whether he would be happy to remain in his current division remains to be seen, but he may have more of a chance of winning promotion with the Clarets than at his current side in the short term, even though the Sky Blues have so much potential.

Jay Stansfield (loan)

Although the Clarets currently have a decent number of striker options at their disposal, Rodriguez won't be staying at Turf Moor for the long term, former loanee David Datro Fofana has returned to Chelsea, Weghorst looks destined to leave and Michael Obafemi's future isn't certain either.

A top goalscorer will be needed if Weghorst moves on, something that seems likely considering how many times he has been out on loan in recent years.

Fulham's Jay Stansfield, who shone for Birmingham City last term, could be an excellent option to have if a loan move to Turf Moor is sanctioned.

The Cottagers' boss Marco Silva has said that the player will be remaining with the West London club next season, but lots could change in the coming months.

A new signing or an underwhelming pre-season could persuade Silva's side to make him available for another loan, so the Lancashire outfit should be keeping tabs on him.
