Ghana comfortably saw off Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 on Saturday to secure third place in the 2025 Unity Cup.
A relatively inexperienced Black Stars squad was inspired by a stellar performance from captain Jordan Ayew, who opened the scoring mere minutes into the afternoon’s proceedings with a curling effort from outside the box.
The Leicester City forward then delivered the corner which was headed home by defender Razak Simpson six minutes later, before laying the ball off for Mohammed Fuseini to rifle in a third of the match before half-time.
Ayew, who had several other chances throughout his hour-long appearance, was in the area again just prior to his second-half withdrawal but this time wasn’t needed as Lawrence Agyekum’s effort from a tight angle squeezed through the legs of Jabari St Hillaire, taking a deflection off the Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper on its way into the net.
Both Simpson and Fuseini’s goals were their first for their country, with the former making amends for his midweek own goal against Nigeria while the latter ensured his full international debut went as well as one could hope for.

Ghana were without several big-name players including Athletic Bilbao’s Iñaki Williams, West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey.
But many newcomers and youngsters impressed, including teenager Caleb Yirenkyi, 20-year-old Genk forward Christopher Bonsu Baah and Coventry City striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, who came off the bench after scoring his first international goal against Nigeria on Wednesday.
Black Stars boss Otto Addo said he “got a lot of answers” ahead of his team’s World Cup qualifiers later this year.
“It’s always good to look for the future and some of the boys seized their chances and did really well,” he said post-match.
Addo added that the Unity Cup, held this week at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium following a 21-year hiatus, was a great opportunity to showcase Afro-Caribbean talent and culture.

“It’s more than just football, it’s about coming together,” he said. “There’s a large community of supporters in London and it’s special for them to see.”
Trinidad and Tobago head coach Dwight Yorke echoed that sentiment.
“Some of our lads haven’t been outside Trinidad and Tobago before, so being able to play in front of this crowd in a Premier League stadium is great experience and excellent preparation for our World Cup qualifying campaign,” the former Manchester United striker said.
“This was a good indication of where we are and where we need to improve.”
The Soca Warriors were limited in their chances but did nearly pull one back early in the first half, when Duane Muckette hammered a well-hit shot against the post with the score then at 0-2.
