Genk pick up purchase option for Birmingham City winger | OneFootball

Genk have announced that they are picking up the option they have to purchase 22-year-old winger Ayumu Yokoyama from Birmingham City. The Japanese wide man joined Genk in January on loan, with Genk having negotiated a purchase option. With Christopher Bonsu Baah set to move to Saudi Arabia, Genk are in the need for reinforcements out wide.

Yokoyama did not feature for the Genk first team last season. Instead, he spent his time with the second team, Jong Genk, in the Belgian second tier. Yokoyama played nine games in the Challenger Pro League, scoring once. The Japanese winger only joined Birmingham City at the start of the 2024/2025 season for around €1m. However, the former Sagan Tosu man made 19 appearances for Birmingham City in League One, scoring four goals and grabbing two assists.

Yokoyama will likely now join the Genk first team for the 2025/2026 campaign. He will offer the side plenty of versatility, being able to play on both flanks and even as a striker if required.
