After the three days off granted by Paulo Fonseca for Christmas, AC Milan returned to training at Milanello yesterday to prepare for the visit of Roma.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Alvaro Morata has overcome the tonsillitis that kept him out against Hellas Verona and against the Giallorossi he will once again be a starter. At present, it is unclear if he will be the centre-forward or act as an attacking midfielder again.
Much will depend on whether Christian Pulisic is among the players called up. Yesterday the USA international trained separately again and only today will it be clear whether or not Fonseca will actually be able to count on him for Sunday.
The feelings are positive and therefore there is confidence that he will do a full session with the rest of the group today. Fonseca’s idea is to start him from the bench, as a precaution in view of the Supercoppa Italiana, but Rafael Leao and Noah Okafor being out may change that.
The last two training sessions before the match against Roma will tell us more, and after the game the team will head to the Middle East for the semi-final against Juventus on January 3, then the possible final against one of Inter or Atalanta will be on January 6.
At Milanello they don’t want to take too many risks, but it’s also true that a win is needed against Roma. Since Pulisic got injured, Milan have been struggling going forward: zero goals in the rest of the match against Atalanta, two against modest Red Star, zero against Genoa and only one against Verona.
