Arsenal have been handed a crucial injury boost with Gabriel Jesus returning to first-team training today. (via football.london).
Jesus was training individually to get his fitness up to scratch but has rejoined his teammates for competitive action.
The 25-year-old suffered a knee injury that prevented him from completing the 2022 World Cup with Brazil. He underwent surgery on his knee in December.
However, Jesus has returned at the perfect time for the Gunners, with the Premier League club suffering injuries in their attack.
January transfer window signing Leandro Trossard and academy graduate Eddie Nketiah suffered injuries in Arsenal’s victory over Bournemouth last weekend and were absent from training today.
Mikel Arteta will need all hands on deck with the season entering the final lap. The games are coming thick and fast, and he will be happy with the former Manchester City man returning to action.
Jesus was an integral cog in manager Arteta’s side early this season. His hold-up play and roaming striker style made Arsenal fluid and helped their early charge.
Arsenal top the Premier League, leading reigning champions Manchester City by five points. They face Sporting Lisbon on Thursday in the Europa League. They will be wary of Ruben Amorim’s side and the threat they possess.
Jesus netted five goals and five assists for Arsenal in his 14 appearances in the Premier League, although he has continually faced criticism for his profligacy in front of goal. He has missed 11 big chances.
It is currently unclear if Jesus will start the game on Thursday. His manager was coy about setting a timeline when discussing the injury. The Brazil international will be hoping to make the bench.
