The UNFP Awards was held this Monday night at Paris’ Pavillon d’Armenonville to celebrate the achievements of France’s very best football players. As expected, PSG striker Kylian Mbappé has won a record fifth consecutive UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Season trophy. No player has won more than him. The France skipper is dominating the league’s goalscoring charts with 27 goals to his name and was the driving force for Les Parisiens’ latest league title. It is, of course, Kylian Mbappé’s final Ligue 1 Player of the Season before his expected summer move to Real Madrid as a free agent.
The UNFP Awards rewarded Stade Brestois’ odds-defying Ligue 1 season in rewarding Eric Roy as the Manager of the Year. Despite heightened competition in the forms of Nice’s Marcin Bulka and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, PSG’s Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma has been anointed Goalkeeper of the Year for the second time since his arrival in the French capital. Les Parisiens’ teenage sensation Warren Zaïre-Emery – who is expected to be called up by France natinoal team boss Didier Deschamps on Thursday for his Euro 2024’s squad announcement – has, unsurprisingly, been voted Young Player of the Year.
For the second time since 2016, Atlético de Madrid playmaker Antoine Griezmann has been lauded as the Best French player abroad, beating the likes of Arsenal’s William Saliba or Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni.
