Fulham have formally approached Arsenal to re-sign winger Reiss Nelson on loan for the upcoming 2025/26 season, according to BBC Sport.

Nelson enjoyed a loan spell at Fulham last term. He bagged two goals and one assist in 12 appearances before undergoing surgery in February 2025.

Although the original loan deal did not include an option to buy, Fulham have expressed a strong interest in bringing Nelson back.

The Cottagers are currently the only Premier League outfit yet to make a summer signing.

Nelson returned to Arsenal’s Sobha Reality Training Centre in early April to complete his rehabilitation but is expected to leave the club this summer, having been deemed surplus to immediate requirements.

A loan move presents a mutually beneficial opportunity for all parties. With Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and the soon-to-arrive Noni Madueke in the squad, Nelson’s opportunities will be limited.

Granting him another season at Fulham ensures he continues progressing while keeping his options open for future integration or a permanent transfer.

Negotiations remain ongoing between Arsenal and Fulham regarding the loan’s financial structure, including wage contributions and possible performance incentives.

Nelson is keen on returning to a familiar environment under the tutelage of Marco Silva, whom he cited as a major factor in his decision to move to Craven Cottage in the first place.

With just two years left on his current deal, Arsenal could hold out for a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy.

They may extend Nelson’s contract by one year if he leaves on a dry loan.
