A bold claim from Spain has suggested that Manchester City would be willing a two-year contract to one of Real Madrid’s veteran midfield stars this summer.
It is the latest development concerning Manchester City’s expected pursuit of new names in the central midfield roles, with a number of existing first-team options and their respective futures remaining uncertain.
Kevin De Bruyne will be entering into the final year of his Manchester City contract when the new season gets underway, unless Etihad Stadium bosses manage to tie down the Belgian to extended agreement, with Saudi Arabian officials watching attentively.
Elsewhere, Bernardo Silva and Kalvin Phillips are both likely to seek exits from the club, while recruitment figures within City’s offices are likely to seek a more capable back-up option or compliment for Rodri – who remains undroppable at present.
Concerning the latter pursuit, a new report from Spain has linked Manchester City with a relatively surprising interest in one of the game’s greatest ever midfielders, currently plying his trade with the newly-crowned La Liga champions.
That is according to the information of Real Madrid-focussed outlet Defensa Central, who report that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are expected to return for Santiago Bernabeu midfielder Toni Kroos when the ongoing season ends.
It is claimed that the Etihad club will offer the German a two-year contract, or a combination of an initial one-year deal with the option to extend by a further 12 months. However, it is reassured that from the side of Madrid, they do not expect a move for Kroos this summer.
Nevertheless, the idea of Pep Guardiola pursuing the player is made clear, and from the side of the player, the report claims that Manchester City will have a staggering €30 million contract ready for him to sign.
Despite being 34-years-old, and Carlo Ancelotti having a number of fresh young faces at his disposal in central midfield, Toni Kroos has managed to register a commendable 45 appearances across all competitions this season.
In his 31 La Liga appearances, Kroos has scored one goal and provided seven assists, as Real Madrid beat away competition from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and City Football Group’s Girona to claim the Spanish top-flight title.
Manchester City will of course be more than familiar with the talents of Kroos, having faced the German and his teammates on two occasions this season, and several times in recent seasons, in a newly-defined UEFA Champions League rivalry between the two sides.
