From transfer business to contract extensions, Inter Milan are ready to continue “business as usual” with Oaktree Capital as owners.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

US-based fund Oaktree Capital have officially confirmed their takeover of Inter.

The next few weeks will see the process of Oaktree replacing Suning at the helm unfold.

As the Corriere notes, that means that for a period, there will be no transfer business at Inter.

The next 15-20 days will be exclusively focused on the transition period between Suning and Oaktree at the corporate level.

Therefore, all other matters will be on hold. This includes transfer business.

Apart from the ownership handover, the operations will be somewhat bare bones for that 15-20 day period.

“Business As Usual” For Inter Milan Under Oaktree Ownership

Once that handover is complete, however, it will be time to see what Oaktree’s vision and strategy for Inter are on a sporting level.

According to the Corriere, though, the strategy won’t be much different from Suning’s.

Of course, Oaktree are in a much different position than the beleaguered outgoing owners. But for Inter itself, the fund are ready to stay the course.

Firstly, there will be the matter of key contract extensions. Namely, those of Simone Inzaghi, Nicolo Barella, and Lautaro Martinez.

Inter cannot make any of those extensions official in the next 15-20 days.

However, after that the club will aim to wrap those negotiations up, culminating in new long-term deals.

The most problematic would be an extension for captain Martinez.

In the cases of Inzaghi and Barella, the agreements are already essentially in place on new deals.

On the other hand, Inter still have to find an agreement with Martinez on terms for an extension.

The Corriere note that the Argentine will have to lower his financial demands.

Martinez is asking for as much as €12 million net per season to sign a new contract. The Corriere report that that is significantly more than Inter would be in a position to offer.

Meanwhile, the Corriere report, Inter’s transfer plans are not going to be altered radically by the change in ownership.

One of the main priorities is still to sign goalkeeper Bento from Athletico Paranaense.

And the future of wingback Denzel Dumfries is still to be understood. There will have to be contract extension talks with the Dutchman very soon.
