Blues are still waiting on the Peterborough winger's next move.
Birmingham City are actively looking at Kwame Poku alternatives amid frustration over the winger's slow decision-making on which club he will join.
Poku has been admired by the League One champions for a while now. He has impressed mightily in the third tier over the past two seasons, and is probably due a move up a level.
Had he not got injured shortly before the winter transfer window, there's a chance that an unnamed Championship club could have signed him in January, according to Peterborough United's director of football, Barry Fry.
He is, however, very much taking his time over the decision on which club he will join next. The Ghanaian has been released by Peterborough following the expiration of his deal. They will be owed "millions" in compensation as per their chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, but they won't be able to negotiate any such fee until Poku decides which club he is going to go to.
In the midst of the 23-year-old's stalling, Chris Davies' side are actively looking at other options in the Posh star's position, according to Birmingham Live. Football League World exclusively reported that the cash-rich Blues were willing to pay the winger £30,000 per week in order to land him. He has also received interest from Celtic and Rangers.
Teams outside of England wouldn't have to pay as large a compensation fee in order to get Poku, and, according to the Midlands outlet, those at the Weston Homes Stadium are becoming more and more worried that he may take his talents abroad, leaving them in a worse-off position than they could be in should he decide to move to St Andrew's.
Birmingham Live have said that Japanese attacker Kanya Fujimoto is an option that City are considering. He is a free agent too, but suffered an injury towards the back end of last season that has left some at Birmingham with reservations over a move for the 25-year-old.
Sontje Hansen is a name that has also been linked with Birmingham. They have expressed interest in the Dutchman, who plays for NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie, as per Anthony Joseph. The 23-year-old, who Burnley tried to sign in January, scored six goals and provided four assists in 31 appearances last season.
With the other candidates that they are reportedly looking at for this position, Birmingham should be able to pose an effective ultimatum to Poku. If he isn't thinking too hard about a move to St Andrew's, then that's fine; Blues can go off and find a more than suitable alternative.
The project that Knighthead have built at the club is going to attract so many players, in the same sort of way that Wrexham have done since their takeover in 2021 but on a potentially much bigger scale. Poku needs Birmingham more than they need him.
