Cannon doesn't look set to head back to the King Power Stadium in January, as things stand.
This is according to TEAMtalk, who have also reported that the Foxes are currently eyeing a move for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.
Leicester signed Cannon during the 2023 summer transfer window, but a back injury meant he didn't feature during the early stages of last term.
Even when he did return, he faced a real battle to win game time at the King Power Stadium, with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka also available as options for then-boss Enzo Maresca.
Daka may not have performed that well last term, but Maresca still gave him the chance to shine, and it's fair to say that Cannon's game time in the Midlands was fairly limited.
And following their promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, it seemed inevitable that the forward would end up securing a loan move away from the Foxes, even with Iheanacho leaving the club following the expiration of his deal.
Odsonne Edouard came in as an option during the previous window - and Cannon's loan move to Stoke was sanctioned during the latter stages of August.
Conceding goals has been the issue for the Foxes this term, not scoring, and TEAMtalk have reported that Leicester have no plans to recall Cannon at this point.
Instead, they are targeting a move for Brighton's Ferguson, who has been the subject of transfer speculation for some time.
This development is a boost for Stoke, who have richly benefitted from having 21-year-old Cannon on their team.
Scoring four goals against Portsmouth earlier this season, he showcased what he could do for the Potters when on top form.
Stoke will be looking to secure a respectable league finish at the end of the season.
And having Cannon at their disposal is a massive boost for them in this quest.
Not only can he score regularly, but he's already used to this level and that should allow him to continue thriving from now until the end of the season.
In fact, this outcome is probably good for all parties. The player will have the opportunity to start regularly for the Potters - and it's an opportunity he probably wouldn't have got at the King Power Stadium this term.
Leicester should also see him develop well during the second half of this season if they don't recall him, so that's a bonus for them.
