Freiburg

Freiburg have experienced a couple of disappointing results since they started 2025 with a 3-2 home win over Holstein Kiel. They fell to a 4-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park, before they suffered another heavy away loss in last Saturday’s meeting with Stuttgart. Anthony Rouault, Ermedin Demirović and Nick Woltemade all found the net in the first half, before Deniz Undav put his name on the scoresheet in the second period to condemn Freiburg to a 4-0 defeat. The result represented the fourth time in five away league games that Freiburg have conceded four goals or more, while it also extended their winless away run to seven Bundesliga matches.

With that in mind, Julian Schuster’s side will be looking forward to returning to the home comforts of the Europa-Park Stadion. Saturday’s hosts have won four of their last five home league games, including each of their last three against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Wolfsburg and Holstein Kiel.

Unfortunately for Freiburg, they have not beaten Bayern in a Bundesliga match since recording a 2-1 home victory in May 2015. However, they may be able to draw some inspiration from the fact they held the Bavarians to a 2-2 in their most recent home meeting in March 2024.

Team News

The hosts are unable to call upon Florent Muslija, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Bruno Ogbus and Manuel Gulde.

Bayern Munich

Leaders Bayern currently enjoy a four-point lead over second-place Bayer Leverkusen after winning 14, drawing three and losing one of their 18 league games this season. Vincent Kompany’s side have managed to take maximum points from their previous four league games, including a narrow 3-2 victory in last Saturday’s home clash with Wolfsburg, courtesy of a Leon Goretzka brace and a Michael Olise effort.

Despite claiming three points last weekend, Bayern will head into Saturday’s fixture in a downbeat mood after falling to a heavy defeat in Wednesday’s Champions League away clash with Feyenoord. Santiago Giménez netted a brace, before Ayase Ueda scored late on to condemn Bayern to a 3-0 defeat in Rotterdam, leaving them the Bavarians in 15th place and one point adrift of the top eight.

Bayern will wrap up the league phase with a home game against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday, but first, they must negotiate a tricky Bundesliga away fixture against Freiburg. The visitors are looking to become just the second team to win a league game at the Europa-Park Stadion this season. They will certainly fancy their chances of picking up a victory after winning six of their previous seven top-flight meetings with Freiburg.

Team News

Bayern defender Alphonso Davies is set to miss four to six weeks after picking up a muscle injury in Wednesday’s defeat to Feyenoord. The hosts are also without Daniel Peretz and Hiroki Ito, while Konrad Laimer will serve a one-match ban for an accumulation of yellow cards.
