Thanks to their penalty shootout win over Croatia at the Stade de France on Sunday (2-0, agg. 2-2, pens 6-4), France have set up a semi-final encounter against Spain, a repeat of the Euro 2024 semi-final.
Les Bleus headed into the second leg in Paris 2-0 down to Croatia, however, they restored parity thanks to goals from Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé in normal time. France dominated but couldn’t score the goal that would send them through, neither in normal time nor in extra time.
However, Mike Maignan proved the hero in the shoot-out, saving two penalties before Dayot Upamecano stepped up to take the decisive spot-kick. Spain also needed penalties to get past the Netherlands. Donyell Malen miss was the one that sent La Roja through to the final four.
The reigning Nations League champions will therefore meet France in Stuttgart on June 5th with a place in the final up for grabs.
