Widely considered among Europe’s best strikers, Marcus Thuram has become a superstar at the San Siro.

Indeed, he played an influential role as Inter won the Scudetto in his first year at the club last term.

Furthermore, he’s the Nerazzurri’s most prolific player in Serie A this season.

However, forced to live in the shadow of Kylian Mbappe, he has yet to demonstrate his full potential for France.

Despite his torrid international form, Thuram had received Deschamps’ call-up for matches against Croatia this month.

Les Bleus will lock horns with Zlatko Dalic’s side in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.

Unfortunately, Thuram will not be able to help his side after returning to Italy to treat his ankle problem.

Thuram has withdrawn from the national team and headed back to Italy to work on his recovery.

Indeed, the 27-year-old has been struggling with an ankle issue since the game against Fiorentina last month.

Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps gave his blessing to the Inter talisman and subsequently explained why.

“We have to play the first match, and the second will come soon,” Deschamps said.

“Obviously, I’m not here to take unnecessary risks, just like with Marcus Thuram, who could have stayed with us.

“I think about the players’ physical well-being. I have to take care of them, and that will be part of my approach.

“The squad is here with the goal of securing qualification, which doesn’t rule out the possibility of managing playing time.

“I don’t have the answer today – I’m already focused on the first match,” he concluded.
