Former Real Madrid prodigy refuses to rule out future return – ‘You never know’ | OneFootball

When Real Madrid sold Nico Paz to Como 1907 last summer, they inserted buyback clauses for the La Fabrica prodigy, valid for the next three years.

As such, the Merengues could have re-signed him from the Serie A club in the ongoing transfer window for a nominal fee of €8 million.

The possibility was certainly entertained especially after how Nico excelled in his debut season in Italy. There were talks of a potential move even before the FIFA Club World Cup started in June.

Ultimately, though, Real Madrid decided against pulling the trigger, instead opting to let the Argentine sensation continue his development at Como.

Nico Paz not closing the doors

Speaking in an interview with SER Radio Club Tenerife (h/t Mundo Deportivo), about his future, Nico Paz did not rule out returning to Real Madrid.

“Is the stage closed at Real Madrid? You never know. I’m focused on the current project… I have no idea about the future,” said the Argentine international.

Nico then admitted that his time at the Spanish capital club helped him develop into the player he is today, saying:

“I found a remarkable level. The level at Tenerife was good, but being an island, it’s not the same as on the peninsula, where many more players gather.”

No talks with Xabi Alonso

Nico Paz also confirmed that he does not know new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and had therefore not spoken to him about a possible return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

“I’ve never spoken to him – Xabi Alonso – before. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him,” he said.

The youngster then expressed gratitude towards Real Madrid for making him into the player he is, saying:

“Real Madrid is the club that has given me everything. It gave me the opportunity to grow, to learn from its values, and where I was able to make my professional debut… I grew up there for half my life, and I remember it fondly.”

Since Real Madrid’s decision to not bring him back this summer, Nico has attracted interest from other top clubs.

However, Los Blancos retain control over his future and would be prepared to veto a transfer this summer so that he continues to progress at Como.
